Pentathlon??????

So went to the freeman center this morning expecting to run a little workout then watch my teammates compete in the pentathlon.  As I sat there waiting to warm up coach informed me that he needed more people to compete and I was one of them.  So off I went.  I was moderately confident in my skills at most of the events because I have competed in them in high school, but it had been nearly two years so I had no idea what would happen.

First up was the 55m hurdles.  It took me a few runs to be confident that I would actually make it over and survive.  Also, both taking off and landing was still a little funny on my right knee.  After one very ugly race i managed to hit 10.8 secs, only 0.5 behind my high school pr.

Then on to high jump.  I had high jumped before but I was never very good.  We opened at 4" but I could not quite figure out how to go up from that run and unfortunately no heighted : (

Next was the event I had no idea what I was doing with, shot put.  Just before the event started Coach took me through shot put 101 and I managed to through 6.63 m or 21".  I guess that's acceptable for never having done it before.

Then over to long jump.  I had about 5 mins to figure out my approach which surprisingly consistent today.  First jump was 4.1 something.  Second was 4.33 then my last one was 4.38 m or 14'4.5" a pr by a few inches.

The last event of the day was the 800.  I had never run a race this far before and had no idea what to do.  My two goals were to run sub 3 mins and not get lapped by Dira who was attempting to run about a 2:15.  I had to run in my trainers because all I had was sprinting and jumping spikes.  I managed to come in at 3:06, not quite sub 3, but did manage to avoid being lapped by about 2 steps.  The 8 is not a bad race, it was nice to have time to think about what I was doing as I was running.

Overall today was not a bad day.  I definitely cannot complain since I have not been training any of these events.
