Turkey Trot!

Kels and I got up nice and early and headed down to our race.  We were scheduled for an 8k this morning.  It was a pretty chilly morning, and there were a bunch of people there.  Race went off at 9:10.  It was amazing to run without hills!  Race felt great! I actually managed to run without stopping, more than I can say for my other 5ks...  Was not super fast, but felt great.  Especially for a pole vaulter who never runs more than a mile at a time :)  Had a lot left at the end.  Some high school girl, running the 5K i think, tried to out sprint me in the last 150m.  So as I saw her coming though, I took off.  Prob ran about a 20 sec 100 to finish!  I def do not know how to run distance races yet!  But hey, I am learning!  Overall it took me 42:38, unofficially.  I am quite pleased!

Finally some time away!

It has been a really busy and tough few weeks!! I am def glad that it is over and I am away from CNU.  Love my friends and all, but really happy to be off campus and with the fam.  Practice has been going well, excited for our meet in just over a week!  The training focus this week is a little different for me though.  Kels and I are running an 8k tomorrow so we did a nice 30 min run on the beach today.  It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow, but going in with no expectations means I can be nothing but content with my time.  Its def not my specialty so here we go :)  Should be a nice week, hope everyone else is enjoying their break as well!

off to a good start...

So practice actually began a week and a half ago, but with all the craziness going on with school, I have not had a chance to post.  It has been really nice having practice again.  Life is even crazier, loosing those three hours, but I really enjoy spending time there.  Lifting has gone well.  Maxed essentially  the same as fall camp.  Running has also felt really good!  The best part though has been pole vaulting.  He has us doing one handed jumps all of the time now.  It was a little weird at first, but I like it.  Really makes me jump up.  today we started working them to flats.  The greatest improvement for me came on the take off.  I am actually jumping up rather than just getting pulled off the ground, which is particularly noticeable with these cause it hurts my shoulder.  Coach got all excited today because of the excess energy that gave me at take off.  If this keeps up, it is gonna be a good year.
